Bri chose the extra man and so first pick fell to me. At the end of the picking, the sides were even and Bri didn’t have an extra man after all. Great counting Gary, no real advantage though as both teams looked well picked and well balanced.
My whites started the brighter with some very quick and controlled passing leading to the first and second goals.
Yellows had chances but which were thwarted by a stern defence and a couple of saves from me, including a double save preventing an Ogie from Anthony.
The goals kept coming and a commanding 4 goal lead allowed the now injured Anthony to go in goal leaving me to terrify the yellows with my blistering speed and flat footed deadly finishing resulting in absolutely no goals and two very elegant pirouette air shots.
The guest acquitted themselves well and very much in the spirit of Plus 30’s. All will be good additions to the fold. Sadly, I missed the most important part of the game, the pub, due to returning home to projectile carrots by a daughter managing to do the exorcist possession to Hollywood precision.
Mom goes to Gary Parker. The board counting of odd (but strangely even numbers) providing me with an advantage, this as well as scoring and assisting but also his inspiring words to Jonny about my blistering pace. What was it: Jonny to Gary ‘Your not going to make me run are you?’, reply from Gary ‘ Go mark Bren then!’.
I love humour and honestly, I thought it was brilliant. Overall score was 5-2. I’m successfully out of the Duffers Cup, a trophy that Bri certainly seems to cherish.
