Match Report

Written by Dave Owen

With Gary P carrying a monster lead going in to the game with only 5 to play he had the opportunity to wrap the championship up. Jamie the only person who could catch him lined up on the opposite team so there was a chance to keep it interesting

6 aside is always tough but both sides played some impressive free flowing stuff and neither side was able to exert their dominance but some nice passing moves were on display in midfield.

Good chances came from the two title hopefuls. Gary was put through one on one but had his shot snuffed out by Ed at a tight angle. Jamie twice attempted a lob over the keeper who was ‘keeping a high line’ but couldn’t quite find his range putting one over and hitting the crossbar with another

The deadlock was finally broken on about 40 minutes when Gary W expertly curled a shot into the corner from about 15 yards out. Yellows had seized advantage in a tight game, whites were wondering how they could get back in it!

But despite the tired legs Tom found some extra energy and showed some persistence to close down defender and keeper forcing an error between the two of them and then rolling the ball into an empty net. 1-1 and both teams might have settled for a draw at this point and headed to the pub

But more drama was to come…minutes later a great bit of skill from Cush lead to him being through on goal, and just needing to slot to end a great move, when he pulled up holding his calf and his night was over. The whites down to 5 sat in and went defensive. But with the yellows confident of getting a winner they over committed and left themselves open. A couple of crisp passes opened them up and Tom made a great run and finish to win it against the odds

2-1 to whites and Dave O through on aggregate to captains cup

Good luck to Ed in the duffers
